Instructions
The peas should be soaked for a few hours before being ground in a blender to prevent lumps in the finished soup.
Spices should be fried in ghee before being added to grated or small pieces of carrot and peas. Cook till soft after adding water. Before serving, season with salt and fresh coriander.
Kichri
If chicken broth is regarded as a healing food in Russian cuisine, then kichri is regarded as such in Vedic cuisine. Of course, you should include a delicious dish of Masha and rice in your diet. You can play about with the Masha and rice ratio. Although the flavors vary, they are all excellent.
Ingredients
150g. Masha, 100g. rice, 1 tsp turmeric, 1 bay leaf, 1-1.2 l. water, 1 tbsp ghee, 1/2 tsp cumin, 1 tbsp fresh ginger, 1/4 tsp asafoetida, 1/2 tsp black pepper, and 3 tbsp lemon juice.
Instructions
Fry spices in ghee, add washed rice and mash, and fry a little. Add water and cook until tender. Add salt, let cool a little, and add lemon juice.
Turkish peas in yogurt
Ingredients
Turkish peas, 2 tablespoons ghee, 1 tablespoon coriander, 1/4 teaspoon asafoetida, 1/4 teaspoon crushed nutmeg, 1 tablespoon turmeric, 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper, and 150 milliliters of yogurt (or sour cream)
Instructions
The Turkish peas should be soaked before cooking. Spices are briefly sautéed in ghee before being added, along with peas, yogurt, or sour cream.
Mung dal soup with tomatoes
Ingredients
200g masa, 2 liters of water, 1 teaspoon each of turmeric, ghee, mustard seeds, cumin, 2 teaspoons of fresh ginger, 1/4 teaspoon asafoetida, 5 medium tomatoes, 2 tablespoons each of lemon juice and herbs, and salt to taste.
